Translation
Fell asleep: a servant of God, Khatou, in the year 6891. John.
Commentary
Latyshev published this inscription relying on an estampage made by Bertye-Delagard. The photograph published here is preserved at the Photo Archive, Institute for History of Material Culture, Russian Academy of Sciences (II–44324, O.1529.73).

2. A common Turkic name Сhatou has a male parallel Сhatais - V 141 (from Goryanka).
3. The name John at the end of the inscription is cut by the same hand, which belongs most likely to the person who was responsible for setting up the tombstone, or, less likely, to someone else who was also eventually buried in the same grave.
