Translation

Fell asleep: a servant of God, Theodore, monk...

Commentary

The reading of the text is based on the transcription of D.M. Strukov (Manuscript Archive, Institute for History of Material Culture, Russian Academy of Sciences f. Р–I, № 619, l. 3) and photographs of T.A. Matantseva.

1-3. On the formula, see Introduction IV.3.F.e.

3-4. The name Theodore (Theodoros) is attested in the Late Byzantine period in V 141 and V 234.

It is quite possible that the inscription marked the grave of a monk from the St. George Monastery.
