Commentary

For the place of find, see Struve 1867, 609.

Latyshev identified the inscription as the epitaph of a certain Nicholas.

2-3. In my opinion, we can read the name Basilos here, which is probably a patronymic (a colloquial form γιός is known, e.g. from Historia Alexandri (rec. R) 2423). The genitive Βασίλου is known from another inscription (Jerusalem, 3rd quarter VIth cent C.E., SEG 35.1547).
