Commentary

Solomonik believed that our panel, which bears a dedication and a building inscription, was originally designed to serve as a tombstone, however, other dedications on monuments of the same shape are known (cf., e.g., V 108).

1–3. On the formula, see Introduction IV.3.B.h. Abbreviation of the word καὶ resembles that of V 343 and thus suggests a Middle Byzantine date.

4. The name Kyros (here Kiros) is attested in the Northern Black Sea region in the feminine form Kyra (V 320).

On the formula, see Introduction IV.3.C.e.

On the context of find, see Tunkina (2011, 153, n. 100). Solomonik mistakenly attributed the inscription to Simeiz.

1–7. On the formula, see Introduction IV.3.B.h. The accusative instead of genitive may have appeared because of the erroneous το͂ν ἁμαρτ(ι)ο͂ν.

7–8. The name Kosmas is attested in the Northern Black Sea region in V 70, V 151, V 160 (all - Late Byzantine) and V 309 (Middle Byzantine).
