Apparatus criticus

Translation

Charmippos, (son of) Prytanis, (dedicated), in accordance with divine command, to Sarapis, Isis, Anubis.

 

Commentary

Alongside two inscriptions from Tyras (I 17, I 18), this dedication is the third piece of epigraphic evidence for the cult of Egyptian gods in the Northern Black Sea of the Hellenistic period. A detailed discussion of the possible historical context is in Vinogradov, Zolotarev 1999.
